Everybody likes to remain connected when on the move and people access internet on computer using a 3G or 2G sim using mobile phone as modem or using a data card. But how can you keep track of your data usage while using internet (3G or 2G (GPRS) ) on your mobile phone? Here is a quick tutorial on how to check data usage on 3G or 2G prepaid or postpaid mobile phone sim card.
Method one
Data Counter is a log tool in all of the Nokia smartphones to check data usage on 3G or 2G prepaid or postpaid mobile phone. Its location may vary from one nokia phone to another so you may have to snoop around a little bit to find where it is located in your phone. Generally it is found inside “Tools” folder on a Nokia phone.
Open your phone menu and go to Applications>Tools>Log
(NOTE: In some Nokia phones this Log will be found under “Call Register” option whereas in some other Nokia phones it is under “Connection Manager“. So check in these locations as well.)
Under Log you will find an option named “Data Counter“. This tool keeps track of your data usage on mobile and will show “Total Sent Data” and “Total Recieved Data“. To start tracking your usage you need to reset the Data Counter to zero.
Go to Options and choose “Clear Counters” option.
- 3G or 2G Prepaid Sim users should reset these counters after a topup or recharge so that they can monitor their internet data usage.
- 3G or 2G Postpaid Sim users should reset their Data Counters at the start of the month so that they can monitor their monthly usage.
Now you can Sit back and enjoy Internet access on 3G or 2G prepaid or postpaid mobile phone sim card without any worry. Whenever you need to see how much data you have downloaded or uploaded just go to “Data Counter” and check usage.
Method Two
If you are unable to find “Data Counter” option in your Nokia phone then don’t worry. Just download a small utility DataQuota (File Name DataQuota.1.35.sisx) on your mobile phone and install it. DataQuota is a Code.Google project and can be downloaded from its official page. This small utility keeps track of your bandwidth usage and usage data is presented graphically as shown below. You get two handy options in this Symbian App.
1. Quota: Set your Bandwidth or Data usage quota and your actual usage will be shown against your set limit helping you monitor the Bandwidth or Data usage.
2. Billing Day: As described above, 3G or 2G Prepaid Sim users should set the Billing Day after a Bandwidth topup or recharge so that they can monitor their internet data usage. 3G or 2G Postpaid Sim users should set the Billing Day at the start of the month so that they can monitor their monthly usage.
