There is a Filter field above the settings.

1. In filter field write “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” and hit enter. This will find the setting “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” for you. Right-click on this and click on modify. Change value to 18.

2. Similarly find “network.dns.disableIPv6″ setting through filter box and set it’s value to “True”. This will avoid delay due to IPv6 DNS server requests.

3. Now Right-Click on the white space anywhere in the About:config window and click new>integer>Boolean.

4. Similarly create “nglayout.initialpaint.delay”. Right Click on new>Integer. write Name of property as “nglayout.initialpaint.delay”  and value=0. This asks Firefox to display whatever data comes and start rendering of webpage immediately without any delay.

Endnote: Instead of doing all this manually you can download and use Firefox addon like Fasterfox to tweak the firefox settings to make it a superfast browser.

In my experience firefox was prone to crashes in earlier versions but FF4 is very stable and robust in this regard. In usual surfing I have never seen it crashing because of these tweaks but of course I can not say that for all kind of web pages as I haven’t done that rigorous testing..Thanks for pointing it out.
